Each year, our editorial board looks for extraordinary Texans for our annual Texan of the Year recognition.
This year’s recipients mobilized in the midst of their grief to work on behalf of Texas children and their families.
After losing their children in a catastrophic flood on the Fourth of July, these families set aside their space to grieve and advocated for comprehensive camp safety reforms that were signed into law. The Camp Mystic parents couldn’t save their girls, so they set out to protect others.
For their grit and determination in the face of such profound loss, the parents of Heaven’s 27 are our Texans of the Year.
