Imagine waking up on Christmas Day to a freshly fallen, seemingly magical blanket of snow. That’s what happened to parts of Southeast Texas south of Interstate 10 in December 2004, when snow totals ranged from a foot in Ganado and Louise, just over 70 miles southwest of downtown Houston, to 2 to 4 inches from Pearland to Dickinson and Galveston. This Christmas is shaping up to be the opposite of that rare scene in 2004. Forecasts suggest Dec. 25 could be one of the warmest on record across the region. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-weather/forecast/article/christmas-forecast-heat-dome-record-high-possible-21245750.php

Houston wakes up to a freeze warning Monday morning. But the chill won’t last long, as a warming trend quickly takes hold. From wind chills in the 20s Monday morning to highs nearing 80 degrees by late week, Houston’s weather takes a sharp turn warmer over the next several days. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-weather/forecast/article/houston-freeze-warning-monday-warming-week-ahead-21242263.php

If you’re a fan of classic Pacific Northwest weather, you’re in luck. Houston is about to get a taste of it. The thick cloud cover that settled in on Wednesday is here to stay for several days as another storm system moves through Central Texas, bringing overcast skies, fog, scattered showers, drizzle, and mist. The rain won’t be heavy, but it will leave the ground wet and may cause slick spots on roads at times. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-weather/forecast/article/houston-forecast-rain-flooding-21221449.php

Houston finally catches a break from cloudy skies and damp weather this week after December started on a wet note. Bush Intercontinental Airport, the city's official climate site, recorded 1.64 inches of rain in just the first seven days of December. This brings Houston's current rain total of 38.79 inches to just shy of 10 inches below normal. While more rain wouldn't hurt, Mother Nature won't be providing additional rain this week as a brief warming trend gets underway. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-weather/forecast/article/houston-warmer-weather-returns-this-week-21228947.php

A weak cold front will push into the Houston area late Wednesday, but it won't bring a drastic drop in temperatures or rainfall. The benign front slides into Southeast Texas with hardly a trace, but a second cold front this weekend could bring showers and a more significant drop in temperatures. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-weather/forecast/article/houston-forecast-cold-front-weekend-21232782.php

Why is Houston so windy on Monday? The short answer is that a cold front with arctic air behind it is surging southward through Texas, making its way to the Gulf of Mexico. But how do "fronts" work and what do "winds" have to do with it?
