No one could call Leroy Fletcher a Christmas Grinch. The Berwick sandwich shop owner said it had been too long since Berwick Village had decent decorations, so he and his business partners decided to step in.
An imposing Christmas tree now towers over the suburban shopping strip in Melbourne’s south-east after Fletcher and his partners splashed more than $300,000 to bring festive cheer to the area. In addition to the tree, they organised life-size nutcrackers, candy canes and a large “JOY” sign to be set up in the middle of the busy High Street precinct.
