Members of a Muslim family, along with a Christian social worker, cremated a 70-year-old Hindu woman who was living alone, in Belagavi on Thursday. Shantabai Krishna Jagade was living in a rented house owned by Mohammad Gade of Gandhi Nagar in Belagavi. She lived there for over 20 years and the Gade family treated her like a member of their family. She fell ill a week ago and the landlord’s family admitted her to hospital and attended to her. But she passed away on Thursday. Her far relatives who lived in another town were informed. They could not travel to Belagavi for the final rites. The Gade family contacted social worker Iqbal Jakati. He, in turn, informed Mayor Vijay More, a Methodist Christian.
