Incandescent candles and sparklers attached to bottles likely caused a fire in a bar at a Swiss ski-resort, killing at least 40 people and injuring some 119 others early on New Year’s Day, Swiss officials said.
The fire, at a bar called Le Constellation in the town of Crans-Montana, likely started when the sparklers were brought close to the ceiling of the bar, which was partially covered in acoustic foam, the officials said at a press conference on Friday, citing video evidence, witness testimony and observations made at the scene.
Among those questioned were the two French managers of the venue, as well as survivors of the incident.
